Dress / Work shoes for NYC Winter?

I am relocating from Phoenix, AZ to New York this summer. It’s a little pre-mature, but I am wondering since it will be my first “real winter”. What shoes do you wear in the city on your way to work in the snow/ sleet/ or rain?

I am a 28 rear old guy who will be working the financial district and I dress business casual (dress pants %26amp; button up shirt). I can’t imagine trudging along the city streets in good dress shoes in the snow or rain? Do people change shoes when they get to the office? If so, what do you wear on your way in-sneakers? I am never had to deal with this before until now? Please help thanks!

Dress as conservatively as possible and you'll make the best impression.

Don't dream of wearing sneakers to work or changing your shoes. You are in the most competitive city, competitive field, invest in your wardrobe.

Have 2 pairs of shoes, one that you only wear on rainy days. Get some mink oil to conserve the rainy day shoes. And get a good raincoat.

Do some research, look at the Brooks Brothers catalog. Go to a store like Nordstrom's or Saks and ask the salespeople to help you (tell them what line of work you will be in). You don't have to buy from them either, but get specifics about styles, fabrics and even colors. Try to get things that don't require drycleaning or ironing but are still as conservative looking as possible. This may mean you spend extra, but the time saved in the morning and money saved from no drycleaning will be worth it.
Reply:I just had my first real winter after relocating from CA to Chicago. People definitely change their shoes when they get to the office. Sneakers might not be warm enough. For me I've been wearing Uggs around almost all winter. However that might not be your thing.

Since I'm not a man I can only give you advice in what to look for in travel shoes. I would suggest finding something insulated that is waterproof. Also you'll have to not care if they get dirty looking. They lay salt out on the sidewalks to help melt the ice, and the salt leaves nasty stains on shoes.

Once you get to New York, you'll definitely have more of an idea of what you'll want. You'll be able to see what other people have as well. Sorry I couldn't help more, but good luck with your move!
