So i want to start running to lose weight but i don't know what kind of attire is appropriate. It's not like track or anything, just casual running around a park.
Also, what type of shoes should i be wearing so that i dont hurt my feet? Are converse ok?
Jogging clothes and shoes?
For just casual running, a pair of shorts and a tshirt would be fine; depending on the weather, you can add long sleeve shirts, sweatpants, running tights, windbreakers...everyone really has their own personal preferences about running/jogging clothes.
As for shoes...Converses are horrible to run in. Seriously, they are possbly the worst type of tennis shoe to run in, because they have absolutely no arch support, are made of canvas, and have that whole rubber thing in the toe (not that I don't like Converses; I've got 3 pairs myself. But they're not running shoes at all.) Unlike what someone else said, walking shoes are not made for running in, and running shoes do have support in them. If they don't have enough support in them, well, that's what inserts are for. For a casual runner, I'd just go to a shoe store and look for shoes marked "running shoes;" a salesperson could probably help you find them. If you ever started adding on more mileage to your workouts, I'd go to a store that specializes in running clothes/shoes or sports attire in general, and ask them to help you find shoes; they are trained to help find shoes that support your arches and stuff. (Actually, I'd recomend the running store first, but shoes there tend to be more expensive than normal shoe stores.) Good luck, and sorry for the wordy answer!
Reply:converse are alright but they aren't really made for running. some adidas, reebok or nikes would be more suitable, and shorts and a top or singlet are fine. but converse would be alright, yes.
Reply:You should just wear a regular white t-shirt or a tank top, shorts or capris and good running shoes, not converse.
Nikes would be a good choice for shoes.
Reply:I'm not an expert, but try to find something that is comfortable to you (also comfortable to be seen in) but something that allows you alot of movement. This is why alot of people choose baggy sweats, or tight and small spandex. Either extreme isn't likely to prevent you from moving or get in your way as much. if you have long hair, get something (ponytail, headband) to keep it out of your face. As for shoes, if you plan to do this alot, and if you have ANY history of foot problems: invest in a good pair of running shoes. But find a good pair of shoes that are comfortable and support your foot well. Converses might be ok but i think the added ability to absorb the impact of running and added support that tennis shoes (running shoes, sneakers) give you is probably much better for your feet.
Reply:Well I would wear a sweatshirt because then you produce more sweat so you will lose more weight in a shorter amount of time
shoes dont get "running shoes" they dont have enough support in them. you should wear comfortable new balance shoes "walking"
sunburns
