Can I wear jeans when going to a lounge that has a dress code of upscale casual?
I am going to a birthday party with my new coworkers and the dress code for the lounge is upscale casual. It used to be a wine and cigar lounge in dc, but its I guess its not anymore. Anyway I don't feel like wearing a polo shirt with khakis, sweater or something along those lines. Which is what I was told to wear by someone who also has no clue.
I usually wear a dress shirt with jeans and dress shoes, a sports coat if I feel like it. I was told that it was a bad idea to wear any kind of jeans at places like this since the doormen tend to be D!cks. Any advice would be great.

i've worked at some upscale lounges in toronto, and here everyone wears jeans. make sure the jeans u choose are nice, dark washes look dressier. wear a shirt (either graphic t-shirt/ polo/ dress shirt) with a blazer over and nice shoes.
if you are really unsure if jeans are okay, just call the club ahead of time and ask!!

Does anyone know where to find affordable short prom shoes?
My prom date is about 2 inches shorter than me, and I can't find any fancy low heel shoes. All the dressy ones I seem to find have higher heels, and all the low ones are just casual. Some ideas on men's leather shoes?
I want to get a new pair of shoes for the winter...I'm looking for some chocolate-brown leather get-ups. Something simple, matte leather with very little or no designs on them. I want something casual, but not like lugz or sketchers, and not old-mannish like rockports. But don't exclude those brands from recommendations. (I mention those specifically because they generally have styles that i'm not all that in to)

a dinner out with your family or friends on your sixteenth bday should be fun but just casual so I suggest wearing a striped top and cute skirt paired with pumps to look cute and trendy but casual . Or if you want a more grownup style you could wear your favorite color of cami or tank then wear bolero with it. Wear skinny jeans and cute flats.
Wear just light makeup for the day,maybe pink. If it is a night party wear light makeup that shimmers, like silver. Half pony do are nice and simple. You could also curl your hair and just let them down.

a dinner out with your family or friends on your sixteenth bday should be fun but just casual so I suggest wearing a striped top and cute skirt paired with pumps to look cute and trendy but casual . Or if you want a more grownup style you could wear your favorite color of cami or tank then wear bolero with it. Wear skinny jeans and cute flats.
Wear just light makeup for the day,maybe pink. If it is a night party wear light makeup that shimmers, like silver. Half pony do are nice and simple. You could also curl your hair and just let them down.

Besides, you get what you pay for ... if you buy a pair of cheap sports shoes, they're probably not gonna last very long. well my grandmother passed away on Monday and im trying to find something to wear....i wanna wear dressy/casual pants but if i do, i have to wear pumps...my mom is so dumb, she just says to wear my puma sneakers and shes not buying me shoes, i freaking hate her

The only thing I would suggest as far as shoes, would be to not wear pumps that have a thin/skinny heel if you are attending a cemetary burial; sometimes the ground is soft and/or wet and your heels may sink.

But, one of my aunts died last year, and i just wore balck pants and black ballet flats with a green top. The ballet flats were not expensive at all, maybe 15-20$$ i dont remember. These would look great with casual/dressy pants.

The only thing I would suggest as far as shoes, would be to not wear pumps that have a thin/skinny heel if you are attending a cemetary burial; sometimes the ground is soft and/or wet and your heels may sink.

I'm looking for something stylish yet relatively comfortable (i.e. flat) and casual to wear with jeans in the spring/summer...for example, I won't wear my running/athletic shoes unless I'm working-out. Any good ideas?

Reply:I think a wedge would work best, they are comfortable to walk and stand in. Sometimes flats aren't as comfortable as heels, because they are hard on the pressure points in your feet. Flip flops are okay, but the problem is when you walk in jeans with flip flops, the bottom of the jean leg tends to tuck in between the shoe and your heel.....VERY AGGREVATING and it look stupid from behind. You know, I am a fan of Borne sandals, wedges and flip flops. They are extremely comfortable and stylish. They sole of Borne shoes are padded so nicely, and the shoes are very well made so they will last you a long time. Hope this helps.

What buttons to use and what shoes to wear with a man's pea coat?
I had the fortune of being handed down my father's wool coat when he was in the Navy in the early-60's. I understand that a man should never button the bottom (third) button, always button the middle (second) button, and the top (first) can be used in certain circumstances. I'm six-feet tall and a fairly thin guy, but do those rules apply to pea coats as well? It's double-breasted, so I was unsure whether or not it's better to have all three buttons button and if so, which side goes on top (I've heard for females it's right over left)?
Additionally, I'll be wearing it during the day, so my attire is pretty informal casual usually with a navy sweater and some tannish pants, etc. Any ideas of what shoes to wear or does it even matter?

Attending a business casual meeting and Iam being supplied with a company logo long sleeve button down shirt that is khaki colored. Unfortunately I wont get the shirt until I fly into town for the meeting so I can look at it now with pants.

Never do black with khaki, sorry just doesn't go. Brown is very good with Khaki as is blue and green. Do not do red you will end up looking like the staff at Target.

Wear something elegant, smart and something that fits you right. Wear some colores!!! Even if they have a casual dress code, they might like someone who has good taste, at least in clothes.
Ditch the jacket. And DON'T wear a tie!!!
Reply:At least in Europe, "business causal" normally includes a jacket and a tie, especially at a job interview, where you always want to be a notch more formal and "proper" than the company's normal dress code.
The collared shirt, however, does not have to be white (which is the hallmark of the "formal" style), but it still has to be in a light colour or a classic pattern (such as light blue, stripes, etc.).
You can always put on your jacket upon entering the (air conditioned) building!
It does not matter if the suit is in polyester: A dress code is not a way to show off wealth by wearing expensive materials. However, a suit that is too "shiny" is not particularly attractive - but by no means incorrect. Looking good and being formally correct are not always the same thing.

What looks best for a male urban college student who's just hanging around town with friends, yet wants to look good wherever he goes? I only started wearing flip flops publicly right before college because one day, I got lazy and wore them to school (while I was still in HS) instead of shoes. I got quite a few compliments from girls that day on how my feet looked compared to other guys (which at the time I never really considered), and now I'm addicted to flip flops. Though, there's the lingering feeling that I'm being looked down upon in public because of my choice in footwear.

If you wear shorts, flip flops or slides go best. I have a few pairs of Reef flip flops that are really comfortable with great arch support. I also have New Balance and Adidas slides. The slides look a little more dressy for going out and the flips look great and feel great during the day.
If I am wearing jeans or khakis, sandals go best. I have some slip on sandals made of leather. They are easy to get in and out of, cover more of the foot, look more dressy, and are like walking on a cloud. These are a good choice if you want to still look casual and go to a nicer restaurant.
Don't let any idiots tell you that sandals, flip flops or slides are gay or just for the beach. This is completely untrue. If you look around, 2 out of 3 guys wear them during the weekends in the summer. Last I checked, only 5% of the population is supposed to be gay. I think flip flops have replaced boat shoes and sneakers as the new casual footwear for men. Girls even wear them to the prom now - you can wear them around town and still look professional. They are a smart look for guys.

Reply:umm.. well i wouldnt suggest doing a diiferent color than blue or white cuz then it wouldnt match, but i would suggest maybe yellow sandal, tht looks like a flip flop but it has a tiny little heel on the bottom, tht should really work with tht dress since wearing a flip flop isnt acceptable for a wedding AND the heel is very small!!! good luck (i would suggest a blue shoe though)

Comfortable work shoes while pregnant?
I have been looking for a nice pair of shoes to wear to work while pregnant and can't seem to find any I like. They don't have to be too dressy, just business casual. I wear heels a lot but don't think I will want to down the road. thanks for the feedback.

I'm starting a new job on Monday, and I need help with what to wear. Originally the dress code was business casual, but one of the supervisors called me the other day to tell me we could wear jeans. I don't wanna show up wearing jeans on mon., so I'm gonna wear khaki's but i have NO clue what shoes to wear with them?!
I'll wear a light colored sweater w/the khaki's. Any pics or links if possible would be appreciated?

Reply:grey pinstriped pants with black leather horse-bit silver buckle shoes, a white collared shirt and a black leather belt. there is nothing more classy and professional. take care of your skin and hair too, it's very important.
stick with white collared shirts or vertical colored-striped collared shirts, try to pick up hues in the pants, but DON'T matchy matchy everything, it looks bad and washes you out. invest in a nice pair of black leather dress shoes that are COMFORTABLE. i recommed Cole Haan, Ecco, Born (first pick), or Kenneth Cole - all of which you can get at Foley's.
also - depending on what type of pants you have, you don't always to tuck in your shirt, but do NOT do the retro, vintage bowler-shirt look, it's very 1996.
Black DOES NOT go with brown.
if you live in a cold climate, invest in a wool knee-length overcoat (or a masculine pea-coat) and contrasting scarf, VERY classy but laid-back.

What type of shoes are you wanting to put with the dockers? Dockers (broadcloth cotton/permanent press) give the impression of "almost" dress pants. In that regard, I would suggest you wear a smooth brown or tan or oxblood leather top shoe---either slip-on or string ties, along with a leather belt matching the leather on your shoes. Then you can wear your button-down shirt or even a Henley collar shirt and look very nice.
Most importantly, however, make sure you're finger nails are clean and neatly cut, your teeth are clean, your breath is fresh! Then smile and be confident. Sounds like you're wanting to put your best foot forward.

OO i was struck with an idea. you could so do a metallic gold with that in like a stiletto. that would be hot. But since you said more casual...there are these awesome clear converse that you can look for online...their $50 but they are incredible. OO i was struck with an idea. you could so do a metallic gold with that in like a stiletto. that would be hot. But since you said more casual...there are these awesome clear converse that you can look for online...their $50 but they are incredible. Their completely see through cept for the bottom and the toe. their really cool =)

What is the difference between a casual and a dress kilt? Are both pleated at back?
I need to put together a semi-casual kilt %26amp; suit on a budget. Also, do I really need Gillie Brogues, or can I wear normal dress shoes? Normal dress with spats? Also also, are the awesome socks (with the little hose flappy things) acceptable if I'm not wearing Gillie Brogues? If you need an idea of how semi-formal this is...my jacket will be brown courdoroy.

What shoes should I wear to the wedding?
Im going to my friends' wedding. My dress is knee length, a turqoise, blue, white and black combo...it has a large swirl type pattern with the colors. It has a high waist and flows away from the body. Its silky material and spaghetti straps which I am going to wear a cardigan over. The waist band part is black so I want to wear black shoes. I am not sure if i should wear plain black ballet flats or black strappy high heels?? I think the heels make it look a little skanky--but the flats make it too casual...im not sure.
What shoes should I wear to the wedding?
wear a pair of peep toe heels. the flats will make your legs look short, especially with a dress, and are not dressy enough.. and the strappy ones arent flattering or in style. here are a few links...

dont be afraid to spend a little extra on a nice pair of shoes. its totally worth it!!! especially when it comes to a pair of classy black pumps!! hope this helped!!

...with that said, find a shoe with a low but skinny heel so that you feel comfortable. It should be open toe, in black or even turquoise with an embellishment on it (like rhinestones) to make you look even more elegant.
Wear natural looking makeup with a little light blue eyeshadow and wear your hair up neatly (again, to add elegance to the look)......smile and have a great time.

Any of the big shoe websites (shoes.com, zappos.com, etc.) have a search by color function for shoes. You can match any one of the colors in your dress to a classy pair of shoes at those sites.
